Kristy Simpson – HR Administrator and Ian Wood – Advanced Manufacturing Manager, attended an Open Evening at Kirklees College on the 12^th February on behalf of the VTL Group.

The purpose of this evening was to give school leavers an introduction to Kirklees College, showing them the qualifications on offer and potential career paths they may take in the future. This provided VTL with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate what we can offer as an employer, should you decide to undertake an apprenticeship with us.

During the evening the VTL Group its own stand, complete with a comprehensive presentation demonstrating to the visitors where exactly an apprenticeship can take you within an organisation like ours. We also helped stress the importance of Apprenticeship qualifications within the Engineering industry as a whole, as over recent years, we have noticed a skills gap with people moving away from this choice of education.

The VTL Group hopes to attend more of these events in conjunction with Kirklees College in an effort to raise the profile of these valuable qualifications and build a strong partnership with local schools, colleges and the wider community.

The new machines, a AC Progress VP2 (wire machine) and a FORM 200 (die-sink machine), were installed at our Technical Solutions Centre in March and April 2012. Now in its second year, the aim of the project is to challenge groups of pupils from various schools to design and build a go-kart.  This year’s project had already been running in the schools since September 2011 and culminated on 26th June with the opportunity for the various school teams to race their go-karts on different courses set up around the Galpharm Stadium.

A small number of local manufacturing businesses, including VTL Precision, were invited to participate in an exhibition at the event in order to help create awareness of engineering and to promote it as a potential career path.

It was genuinely encouraging to see such a high level of capability, interest and enthusiasm of so many young people at the event.  Congratulations to all those who participated!

Managment and employees past and present, friends, family members and local dignitaries were all among the attendees at the event at CTT’s Huddersfield site in St. Andrew’s Road.

There was something for everyone on the day including various factory tours, demonstrations, competitions and amusements for the children.  The factory tours gave a real insight into how the CTT business has evolved over the years and allowed the younger members of the Huddersfield community to gain a great understanding of just what goes on behind the factory gates of one of the town’s largest employers.

In the spirit of the event, a number of CTT’s suppliers were invited to participate by setting up mini exhibitions.  This all went to demonstrate the key role of the supply base to any progressive manufacturing business.

The focal point of the VTL stand was a time trial course with a radio controlled car.  This proved to be a great attraction for three different age groups, each of which equally enticed by the chance to win an iPod Shuffle – Congratulations to all three winners, who showed considerable skill in completing the course in highly impressive times!

VTL Precision is proud to have been invited to participate in CTT’s milestone event.  Through our longstanding close relationship and mutual goal for engineering excellence, we look forward to continuing to play a key role in CTT’s global business evolution well into the future.

The new centre brings together a team of 12 engineers and technicians to provide customers and suppliers with expertise in materials, product development, software simulation and process implementation.

The centre is the accumulation of many years experience in helping the development of new products for the automotive sector and taking them into production.

Steve Eeles, VTL’s Technical and Engineering Director said “We are very excited to announce the official launch of the  new facility. We have been offering service such as test facilities and materials consultancy for some years but we have brought everything under one roof to provide a clean-room R&D environment for customers, suppliers and our research partners to provide a full-solutions service from VTL Group.”

The centre boasts over 20,000sqft of dedicated R&D facilities and has a full training and conferencing suite to hold events showcasing the best in advanced engineering practices.
